624,872. Shaft couplings. MANUFACTURE DE MACHINES DU HAUT-RHIN. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25757. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1939. [Class 80 (ii)] A coupling for co-axial shafts, having a space between them for the removal of components mounted thereon, comprises a sleeve capable of sliding without turning on the shaft ends and having a conical female part engaging a corresponding male portion on one shaft, locking means being provided for preventing longitudinal movement. A sleeve 7 is located axially in a bearing 6 by a shoulder 11 and a collar 12 and is grooved internally to slidingly engage keys 8 and 9 on driving and driven shafts 2, 1 respectively. To engage the coupling, the bearing 6 is moved to the left allowing the female part of the sleeve to engage with the corresponding male corner 13. The sleeve is then locked by the tape threaded nut 15 which contracts the slotted end of the sleeve on to the shaft 2. In modifications the locking is performed by a parallel thread and plain taper in place of the nut 15, and by right- and left-hand thread connections between sleeve 7 and the shaft 1, and by a nut on a shaft 1 having an extension which clamps behind a shoulder on the sleeve 7. The two latter locking devices are reversible to disconnect the coupling.
