624,863. Moulding artificial eyes. AMERICAN OPTICAL CO. June 3, 1946. No. 16825. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1944. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group VI] A mould for marking artificial eyes is made in two parts 4 and 8 mating by means of projections 6 and slots 9. Plaster 7 and 10 is introduced into the removable top 8 and through the removable plate 5 into the base 4.. A plaster impression is taken of a trial wax eye. A scleral eye portion is then moulded in plastic using e.g. liquid soap, or shellac and preferably a thin coating e.g. of sheet " Cellophane (R.T.M.) on the surface of the plaster 7 to prevent adhesion of the surfaces. The scleral portion 1 is then moulded with an iris insert 18 and a transparent resin layer 30, metal e.g. tin foil 11 being used to coat the mould surfaces.
