Abstract

Electrically conducting refractory bodies are formed from a mixture comprising stannic oxide, a shrinkage agent, and a small percentage, preferably 0.5 per cent to 5 per cent by weight, of an oxide of at least one of the elements arsenic, antimony, tantalum and bismuth, or compounds of such elements which will form oxides when the refractory body is fired. Up to 40 per cent by weight of zircon may be incorporated. The shrinkage agent may be a compound of copper, silver, gold, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel or zinc, copper being preferred.
