Abstract
624,093. Jigs. NORTONS (TIVIDALE), Ltd., TAYLOR, F., BROWN, J., and NORTON, R. M. July 23, 1946, No. 21950. [Class 82(ii)] In a jig of the kind such as described in Specification 582,647 wherein discharge of the reject (heavy) fraction into a reject compartment 8 (10) open at all times to the atmosphere is opposed by a head of water and reject material, the disposal chamber 19 (20)-in which there is a tendency for a head of water to build up-is furnished with an outlet to limit the head that can thus build up, and if desired, to retain the said head at a definite level in relation to that of the water in the stratification compartment 7 (9). The outlet from a side tank 60 (or 165, not shown) of the disposal chamber is controlled by a discharge valve 63, Figs. 1 and 5, and/or a weir 66, Fig. 7 (not shown), which are manually operable, or the valve 63<SP>1</SP> may be automatically controlled by a float 67 in the water of the disposal chamber, Fig. 8. In a further modification (see Fig. 9, not shown) the movements of the float 67 may control, through a switch, an electrically driven pump which when running extracts water from the chamber.
