Abstract
623,672. Suitcase &c. handles, FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., HACKETT, H. M., and BODDY, E. J. May 9,1947, No. 12627. [Class 133] A carrying handle for a suitcase or like portable articles, such as boxes, portable gramophones or portable radio sets, comprises a handle member 10 arranged to be moved from a housed position to an operative position, a trough-shaped housing 12 arranged to be secured in a recess in the suitcase or like portable article and to receive said handle member 10 by a flange 13, and transverse pins 16 with riveted ends in bushes 11 in the handle member received in guides 15 in the housing to secure the member 10 therein. The member 10 is normally spring-urged from a bowed to a straight position, which spring may be extensible under load, and the housing 12 is formed with bowed walls forming recesses 14 to permit access to the member 10, whilst one or both pairs of slits or guides 15 may be horizontal. In a modification, Fig. 4, the housing 21 has no recesses and has links 19 mounted in pivots 20 formed with slots 23 to receive the ends of the pins 22 passing through bushes in the handle 18.
