[Class 52 (ii)] An invalid's bed comprises a light rockable frame upon which is mounted a mattress composed of parts which are pivotally adjustable to one another. As shown the frame comprises at each side tubular members 1 of the shape shown such parts being preferably formed of replaceable members connected together. The frame 1 is provided with uprights 3a, 4a, a reinforcement member 5 and the frames are interconnected transversely by crossmembers removably or pivotally connected to the side frames. The bedstead is mounted on wheels 16 and pivoted shoes 18, 19, 20 are provided to support the bedstead in stable positions. The mattress consists of back, seat and leg portions comprising frames 27, 28, 29 adapted to carry the resilient metal surface 21 and tensioning bars 31, 32. The back frame 27 is mounted on a cross bar carried by the uprights 4a upon which cross bar is mounted the seat frame 28 to the ends of which are pivoted the two independent leg frames 29. The metal surface 21 which may be of the trellis type is connected to the ends of levers 25a, 26a the other ends of which are connected to the uprights 4a by tension rods 31, 32 which are provided with nuts so that the tension of the metal surface 21 may be adjusted. The ends of the seat portion 28 are carried by rods 37 slidable in uprights 3a while the back frame 27 and if desired the leg frames 29 may be adjusted by means of curved links 142 slidable through an automatic brake device 43. In lieu thereof the separate leg portions may have extending portions which are guided on the side frame and locked in adjusted position by spring bolts. The metal surface 21 is provided with side extensions extending beyond the slide frames which extensions may be folded down to permit the bedstead to be passed through a door. For attention to the patient the frame is rocked until the sloping portion rests on the ground the shoe 19 automatically keeping it in that position. The nurse may then attend to the patient while standing at the foot end of the bed, the seat portion of the mattress being provided with an opening which is closable by a cover.. In a modification the mattress surface is comprised of resilient blades carried on the mattress frames and additional foot rests may be clipped to the frame so as to extend laterally of the frame.
