Abstract

621,929. Friction clutches. MACBETH, C. Jan. 31, 1947, No. 3009. [Class 80 (ii)] In a clutch of the kind in which a pair of sheet metal discs 1, 2 are connected by a rubber annulus 3, the disc 1 being secured to the hub 4 and the disc 2 carrying the friction pieces 6, the region between the friction pieces 6 and the rubber annulus 3 is provided with two rings of apertures 9, 10 arranged in staggered formation to flank opposite sides of narrow heat conducting paths 11 between the inner and outer portions of the region. The apertures 9 may connect with radial slots 8 which increase the flexibility of the disc 2. In a modification metal segments carrying the friction pieces are so shaped and secured to the main portion of the disc 2 as to provide two rings of apertures as before.
