Abstract

621,924. Travel cases. LEWIS, M., and PEARL, L. Jan. 14, 1947, No. 1274. [Classes 18 and 133] A composite travelling case comprises two individual travelling cases, complete in themselves, connected together externally by releasable means so that the composite case can be carried as a unitary load or divided into two separate cases merely by releasing the connecting means. In the drawing, two cases 1 and 2 are provided, at the bottom edges of respective faces 9 and 10, with complementary fastening means comprising sleeves 8 which, when interengaged and locked by pivot bars passing through the sleeves, form hinges fastening the two cases together. Further releasable fastening means is provided by bails 11a and spigots 11b attached, respectively to the lids of cases 1 and 2 and which, when locked, connect the two cases rigidly together. Carrying handles 3 and 4, attached to cases 1 and' 2 respectively, may be so shaped that they may be brought together and form a comfortable grip or to interlock, the two cases, when connected, being carried by grasping both handles with one hand. Alternatively a central attachment means may be provided on the normally uppermost side of a case for attaching a single handle which is used for carrying the composite case, the other handle being removed.
