1327628 Handles for carrier bags WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 24 Nov 1970 [22 Dec 1969] 55832/70 Heading A4G [Also in Division E2] An arrangement to allow fastening of the top of a carrier bag comprises a pair of carrying handles of flexible plastics material, each handle comprising a mounting strip of which a first longitudinal marginal portion 3, 4 is attachable to a respective wall of the bag along the mouth and a second marginal portion 10, 12 of U-section, projecting over the side of the bag when the handle is attached to a bag, a hand grip portion 5, 6 and means for interengaging the handles with the first portions in face-to-face contact, and the openings of the U-sections confronting one another, wherein along at least parts of the mounting strips the limbs of the U-section furthest from the marginal portion 7, 8 extend beyond the contacting faces of the first marginal portions, so that, when interengaged, one limb 8 overlies the other, the said one limb 8 terminating in a hook-like member 9 received in a recess 11 in the other, the U-section of said one limb also having a flange 13 parallel to said one limb and spaced therefrom by a distance corresponding to the thickness of said other limb 7, the limb 7 and flange 13 being of a length that each abuts the web of the U-sections when the handles are interengaged. Handle members 5, 6 may also have interengaging hook 17 and recess 18. The end of flange 13 may be chamfered, as shown, and the root of flange 7 provided with a mating bevelled surface 14. A further inter-engaging hook and recess may be provided in the U-sections, the hook carried by a flange on member 10, and the recess in member 12, this arrangement being positioned below flange 13, Figs.12, 13, 14 (not shown). Interengaging members as above may be provided at the middle of the bag, and at symmetrical positions towards the sides. The handle may be of polyethylene.
