Abstract

621,793. Phase-difference measurements. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. March 22, 1946, No. 8936. Convention date, March 22, 1945. [Class 37] [Also in Groups XXXV and XL (b)] The phase difference between synchronizing pulses a and a sinusoidal oscillation developed at 51 is measured by applying the pulses a to the diodes 44, 45 in push-push, and the sinusoidal oscillation in push-pull ; in the time relationship of pulse and oscillation shown in Fig. 2, the outputs of the diodes are equal and opposite, but should this time-relationhsip vary, e.g. as in Fig. 3, one diode has a greater output than the other. The diode outputs are differentially combined to produce a signal whose sign and magnitude is dependent on whether the pulse leads or lags the oscillation and the extent of such lead or lag. This signal controls a reactance valve to vary the frequency of the oscillator 51 which controls a sawtooth generator 91-101.
