1536094 Frequency control ELECTRONIQUE MARCEL DASSAULT 26 May 1977 [3 June 1976] 22318/77 Heading H3A In a transmitter-receiver of a carrier wave modulated by an auxiliary carrier wave, both the carrier wave and auxiliary carrier wave as transmitted are derived from first and second voltage controlled generators 23, 26 in respective control loops 62, 61, so that the phases of the transmitted carrier and auxiliary carrier are controlled by the corresponding phases in the received signals. The received carrier of hyper-frequency # 0 , and phase modulated with a H.F. carrier of frequency f is mixed with a locally generated signal of carrier frequency # 0 p/p+q, amplitude modulated at the H.F. frequency, the mixed signal at I.F. frequency # 0 q/p+q having an I.F. amplitude corresponding to the phase difference between the H.F. components, as received, and as locally generated by VCO 26. Filter 45 passes the signal at the frequency # 0 q/p+q to phase comparator 38, whose other input is derived via multiplier 29 from the local generator 23, a VCO. The resultant error signal controls the phase of the signal from VCO 26. An amplitude modulated signal of carrier frequency # 0 q/p+q is locally generated by means of the VCO's 23 and 26, a phase comparison between the latter signal, and the I.F. signal at 39, providing an error signal controlling the phase of the signal, of frequency # 0 /p+q from the VCO 23. The outputs of the VCO's 23 and 26 are processed at 71, 75 and 73 to provide the transmitted phase modulated signal. The transmitter-receiver is used in a radio-ranging arrangement.
