[Class 4] A parachute has, in addition to the normal shroud lines 20 which are stitched to the fabric of the canopy B at the hem and are also secured at the ring vent 24 from which they may extend loosely to a pilot parachute, shroud lines 30 arranged recurrently therewith which pass through guide sleeves 33 or stip loops 35 at the hem 22 so that upon deployment of the parachute they have a sliding action on the lower part of the canopy which results in a bellows-like action tending to' damp out the shock on the.load and any tendency thereof to swing and oscillate. Both the normal shroud lines 20, which preferably are extensible where they pass over the canopy, and the compression shroud lines 30, extend below to load-carrying means, the shroud lines 30 being fixedly connected at points 39 to tapes 37 and 38, the ends of which are secured to the canopy hem 22 adjacent the points of connection of the shroud lines 20 thereto.
