Abstract

621,606. Aircraft propulsion. SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES DU SUD-OUEST. Feb. 4, 1947, No. 3341. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1946. [Class 4] [Also in Group XXVI] An aircraft propulsion unit comprises a pusher propeller unit driven by one or more engines, the propeller unit having arranged coaxially within its hub a jet nozzle fed through a duct with the exhaust gases from the engine or engines. Two independent contra-rotating coaxial pusher propellers 5 are each driven by a turbine 1 by means of shafting 6 and speed reduction gearing 7, 8. The engine tail pipes 3 are formed into a single jet pipe 4 which is coaxial with and exhausts through the hollow propeller hub which may be insulated from the heat of the pipe 4 by an annular duct 12 filled with heat-insulating material or supplied with cooling air. The pipe 4 may be sub-divided to maintain a high exhaust ejection speed if one engine is stopped. In an alternative arrangement (not shown), additional ducts eject part of the exhaust gases over the upper surface of the flaps to improve the lift properties thereof.
