Abstract

636,045. Jet-propelled aircraft ; boundary layer control. SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES DU SUDEST. May 22, 1947, No. 13828. Convention date, May 28, 1946. [Class 4] [Also in Group YXVI] A jet-propelled aircraft is provided with two gas turbines 1, 2 discharging through, a common nozzle 19 at the tail of the machine, the compressor inlet 5 being arranged to suck in the boundary layer air on the upper portion of the fuselage through an opening 6, or the boundary layer on the upper wing surfaces through spanwise slots 7, according to the setting of a control valve 1.6. During landing the valve is adjusted to ensure suction of the wing boundary layer, to maintain lift. The nozzle 19 is provided with thrust-spoiling flaps 12, 13, and with forwardly-disposed air suction openings 22, 23 for thrust augmentation. The gas turbines 1, 2 may be mounted side-byside, as shown in Fig. 1, or one above the other, Fig. 6 (not shown).
