[Class 117] In a screen for grading coal, coke &c. and comprising a trough with a woven wire or perforated plate or like bottom and reciprocated lengthwise, the trough is suspended by continuous rubber strip attached to each side of the trough along the whole or substantially the whole length of the trough. As shown, the trough is provided with sheet-metal side walls 12 with inwardly turned flanges 14, 15 along their upper and lower edges and the rubber strips 27 are secured to the upper flanges 14 by clamping plates 28 having a rounded outer edge 32 to avoid undue localized stress un the strip. The upper edges of strips 27 are clamped by wooden battens 30 to flanges 26 along the upper edges of bearer plates 21, the inner edges of flanges 26 being rounded. Rubber strips 31 may be interposed between flanges 26 and strips 27. The bottom 18 of the trough rests on the lower flanges 15 against which it is clamped by longitudinal wooden battens 19 secured by short wooden wedges 20, 20A placed at intervals along the length of the trough and engaging under flanges 14. Hooked bolts 18A may also secure the bottom to bracing strips 17. Two such screens inclined in the vertical plane may be axially disposed with the end of one above and overlapping the adjacent end of the other and driven by eccentrics on a shaft disposed across the screens. Removable cover plates 49 may be provided to enclose the space above the screen.
