SHAKER SCREEN.
Application filed July 20, 1925.
The present invention relates to shakers or screens employed in the grading of coal, the primary ob ect of the invention belng to provide novel means for securing the shaker adjacent ends of the shaker plates, to insure against the shaker plates becoming separated, thereby eliminating leakage of the finer grades of coal between the adjacent edges of the shaker plates.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of means to permit the shaker plates to be readily and easily removed and replaced when the same become damaged, worn or otherwise rendered inoperative.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the. invention resides in the combinat-ion and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the in vention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan View of a shaker or screen constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 1: is a longitudinal sectional view through a modified form of the invention.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 4.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the frame of the shaker is indicated generally by the reference character 5 and includes the side rails 6 and 7 respectively, which side rails are supported in suitable spaced relation with each other by means of the angle bars 8, which also act as retainers for the shaker plates.
These angle bars or retainers are arranged in pairs, and as shown, are bolted to the side rails 6 and 7 of the frame by means of bolts 9, the bars being also arranged with respect to the side rails of the frame, to pro- Serial No. 44,838.
vide spaces between the bars of each pair.
The shaker plates are indicated by the reference character 10 and as shown, have their side edges bent downwardly providing parallel fianges 11 which afford means to be engaged by the angle bars or retainers 8 for securing adjacent shaker plates together. Suitable openings are formed in the flanges 11 of the shaker plates, for the reception of the laterally projecting pins 12 which are carried by one of the angle bars 8 or retainers, of each pair, the projecting pins 12 also passing through openings in the adjacent bar, which openings register with the openings of the flanges 11 of the shaker plates.
Thus it will be seen that due to this construction the shaker plates present a smooth and even surface throughoutthe length of the shaker, eliminating all shoulders and bolt heads commonly found in shaker constructions, which tend to break the coal.
The side edges of the shaker plates extend upwardly as at 13 and rest against the side rails 6 and 7 of the shaker frame insuring against the coal passing from the shaker at points adjacent to the side rails 6 and 7, and edges of the shaker plate.
In the form of the invention as illustrated by Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings, angle bars such as indicated at 14 are provided for retaining the side members 6 and 7 of the frame in suitable spaced relation with each other, the angle bars being formed with openings arranged in spaced relation with each other, and disposed throughout the lengths of the upper angles thereof, which openings accommodate the pins 15 of the bracing bars 16 which have their ends bolted to the side rails 6 and 7 by means of bolts 17.
In this form of the invention the shaker plates which are indicated at 18 are provided with offset portions 19 and 20 respectively, the offset portions 19 being relatively shallow, or of a sufficient depth to allow the bracing bars 16 to lie flush with the upper surfaces thereof, while the offset portions 20 are of such depths as to provide for the positioning of the adjacent offset portion 19 of the next shaker plate as well as its bracing bar 16, to the end that a smooth surface will be provided throughout the length of the shaker.
The pins 15 pass through suitable registering openings in the overlapping ends of the shaker plates and have their extremities disposed as before stated in the openings of the upper angles of the angle bars. 7
Thus it will be seen that due to this con st-ruction the adjacent ends of the shaker plates are so secured that all possibilities of a shaker plate moving out of engagement with its adjacent shaker plate are eliminated, thereby insuring against leakage at the points of connection between adjacent haker plates.
I claim In a shaker construction, a frame, a plurality of screen sections supported by the frame, said screen sections including transversely disposed angle bars secured to the frame, wire mesh material stretched over the angle irons, one of the angle irons of each screening section having a. plurality of spaced pins, the opposite angle iron of the section having spaced openings to receive the pins, adjacent angle irons adapted to be brought into engagement with each other to cause the pins to pass into the openings, and said wire mesh material adapted to be clamped between adjacent angle bars, and said pins adapted to extend through the mesh of the wire mesh material to secure the wire mesh material. in position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
RAYMOND B. KLEES.
