Abstract

620,544. Seats and suspensions therefor. SADGROVE, W. H. Jan. 22, 1947, No. 1969. [Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (iv)] In a chair or settee having an upholstered back which also forms a support for the head the upholstery is mounted on a frame the top portion of which, where the head rests in use, has in it a gap filled in by a highly flexible resilient section extending across the gap and readily yieldable to the pressure of the head. As shown a frame A, connected at C to the main back frame B, has the centre of its top portion dipped at S to form a gap which is bridged by a resilient head rest section constituted by a tension spring T connected to the adjacent ends of laths U rigidly fixed at their other ends to the frame A. The frame A is resiliently mounted at C to the back frame B in the manner of a cantilever and the seat frame is connected, at its front by resilient metal strips N and at its rear by tension springs M, to the chair frame which has upstanding lugs J to form stops for the seat frame. In a modification the frame A, spaced from the main back frame, is connected thereto by helical springs. Specification 620,563 is referred to.
