Abstract
<PICT:0620397/III/1> Adsorbent materials used in the treatment of gases and forming a bed in an adsorbing tower are reactivated by passing a heated gas through the bed, imparting a preheat to the gas prior to its introduction into the bed by first passing it over low pressure steam coils, and then boosting the temperature of the gas by electric heating means of the radiant type, until the gas reaches a temperature above the volatilization temperature of materials adsorbed in the bed of adsorbent materials, heating the bed during the passage of gas therethrough by heat applied to the bed interiorly thereof in addition to the heat imparted by the gas passing therethrough, and continuing heating the bed until the bed reaches a temperature in excess of the volatilization temperature of the materials adsorbed in the bed, but below the ignition temperature of any adsorbed materials in the bed. An apparatus for effecting the process comprises two adsorbing columns, column A being used for adsorbing the moisture content of gases and column B being regenerated. The gas for regeneration is forced by a blower 19 past a steam heated coil 25 and a radiant electric heater 53 through a valve 23 into the bottom of the column B. The columns A and B contain adsorbent material 14 in which are embedded a steam heated coil 13 provided with radiating fins 13a and electric heating units 49. These heating means may be used separately or in combination. After regeneration has been completed, cooling of the columns may be accelerated by replacing steam in the coil 13 by a cooling media from a cooler 34.
