Abstract

620,347. Rectifying. BRITISH THOMSON HOUSTON CO.. Ltd., and READ, J. C. Jan. 10, 1947, No. 922. [Class 38 (ii)] In a rectifying system of the discharge type having np phases divided into n groups of p phases by at least three interphase transformers 5, 6, 7, the interphase transformers have auxiliary or secondary windings 9-14 connected to n auxiliary rectifiers, the transformer connections being arranged so that the voltages applied to the auxiliary rectifiers is equal to (1 + x/y) times the voltage between the main interphase neutral point and the neutral point of the corresponding p phase group, x, y being as defined in the figures. With this arrangement the A.C. and D.C. waveforms approximate to those in a 2 np phase rectifying system. The auxiliary rectifiers may be of the so-called " double-way " type, in which the interphase transformer secondary windings feeding the auxiliary rectifiers may, at least in part, carry two opposite half-waves of current in the same winding (Fig. 4, not shown). Existing installations having interphase transformers with no secondary windings may be converted to operate in a "phase doubled manner by connecting additional interphase transformers, having the necessary secondary windings, in parallel with the original interphase transformers (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). The additional transformers may be of the single phase type. Specification 524,933 is referred to.
