[Class 128] [Also in Groups V, VII and XXII] A table mat, consisting of a number of moulded bodies mounted on threads, wires, webbing or the like embedded in the bodies during the moulding thereof, is characterised in that a recess is formed on the underside of each body for the purpose of reducing the weight of the article and of accelerating setting during manufacture. The bodies are made of thermoplastic, and preferably of a synthetic material which first softens and then hardens with continued application of heat ; alternatively a sprayable metal may be used. The articles are mass-produced in moulds for casting, pressure casting, compression or spray moulding, the moulds being provided with cavities for the formation of a whole group of bodies and being adapted to receive threads or like mounting means which will become embedded in the bodies during formation of the latter. Hemispherical bodies, Fig. 3, with cavities on their undersides may be mounted on threads or wires 3 embedded in thickened parts 4 of the walls of the bodies. Alternatively intermediate walls 5, Fig. 4, extruding across the recess in each body, may receive crossed threads 31. When the bodies are of a shape precluding passage of threads as above, the mounting means, e.g. webbing 8, Fig. 7, may extend through the walls of the bodies 7 and be embedded in each body near the inner surface of its recess.
