Abstract

377,621. Moulding jewellery &c. SWAROVSKI, D., Wattens, Tyrol, Austria. March 30, 1932, No. 9179. Convention date, June 9, 1931. [Class 43.] In making jewellery or ornaments comprising stones 2 embedded in a plastic foundation material 7, the stones are set in the foundation simultaneously with the shaping of the foundation from the plastic substance in a mould. The stones may be accommodated in recesses in a lower mould 1 with their outer faces downwards such that the largest edges 3 of the stones are disposed above the edges 4 of the recesses. The upper mould 5 may carry a fastening 6 with portions projecting from the latter to be embedded in the plastic material. The stones are thus securely fixed in the finished ornament, Fig. 3. The lower mould may have prominences enclosing hollows coaxial with the stones such that each stone is disposed in relief above the plane of the ornament and the edge 3 is retained by an annular bead of the plastic material. Buttons containing stones may similarly be made, eyes or other fastenings being embedded in the foundation or holes being formed by dies. Threads and fine wires may be laid in the moulds for network arrangements. The threads may be deeply embedded or a flexible structure may be formed by a shallow lower mould and an upper mould formed with arched hollows. The stones may be arranged in depressions in the upper mould, being retained therein by suction channels and finally pressed down into the foundation. Celluloid, rubber, synthetic resin, artificial horn or other plastic material may be used. Tinted foundation material may be used, or the surface of the foundation material may be subsequently coloured or metallically coated.
