Abstract
619,071. Armouring pipes. FREYSSINET. E. Sept. 12, 1946, No. 27410. Convention date, June 14, 1939. [Class 83 (iv)] In armouring a cylindrical pipe 2, a wire is wound helically on the pipe without tension, a loop is formed in the winding and tensioned and the loop is then made to travel the length of the winding to tension the wire. A wire 2 is anchored at one end A of a pipe 2 and is coiled thereon from a spool 3 by rotation of the pipe. The wire is severed but before anchoring to the pipe at a point B the wire is looped about pulleys 4, 5 mounted on a carriage 8 and separable by a fluid cylinder 7 to tension the loop. The carriage is then traversed from B to A and the loop moves over the wire to apply tension. The slack in the wire is taken up after a temporary fixing has been made near the point A and further tension applied by the cylinder. The carriage is then moved from A to B to increase the tension. In a modification, the carriage is moved spirally about the stationary pipe.
