Abstract

1465620 Reinforced concrete pipes STRESSED PIPE RESEARCH Inc 15 June 1974 26630/74 Heading F2P [Also in Division B3] A reinforcing cage for a concrete pipe comprises two coaxial coils 12, 14 and longitudinal strands 16 woven between adjacent turns of the coils; the longitudinal strands are provided in pairs following oppositely inclined helical paths. Other longitudinal members 20 may be provided inside, outside or interwoven between the coils 12, 14. The cage, preferably of steel in wire or rod form, is made by first winding one of the coils on to a mandrel and fixing the free ends to the running portions to form planar end rings 18; secondly, the longitudinal strands 16 are disposed on top of coil 12, thirdly, the second coil 14 is wound between the convolutions of the first coil 12 under tension to distort the longitudinal strands 16. The cage is cast in expansive concrete so that upon curing the cage is in tension and the concrete in compression.
