Abstract
618,594. Spring suspensions. LOW LOADING TRAILER CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, C. V. Jan. 22, 1946, Nos. 2101 and 2102. [Class 108 (ii)] Each wheel of a trailer is supported on a stub-axle 8 carried by a lever 5 which is pivoted at one end to a longitudinal frame member 2 and anchored directly at its other to the root end of a quarter-elliptic spring 9 shackled to the chassis member 2; the arm 5 and spring 9 form effectively a continuation of one another and lie alongside the frame member 2. The arm 5 is of box-section, being built up by welding from plates, and carries a transverse bearing tube 15 which is pivotally supported on rubber or phosphor-bronze bushes 161 carried on a shaft 16 extending across the trailer. The root-end of the spring 9 is secured by a bolt 27 in the end of the arm 5, the latter being cranked to make the floor level as low as possible. The front plate 11 of the lever 5 is enlarged at 17, where it carries tubes 18, 19 adapted to receive brake shoes 21 for the wheels. The stub-axles 8 may be set at a small angle to bring the tyre tread more nearly in line with the lever 5 and spring 9.
