Abstract
A coated welding rod with a mild steel or low alloyed chromium or chromium nickel steel core has a coating comprising a binder of potassium water glass with ferromanganese 8-30 per cent, preferably 10-25 per cent silica free, or combined 22-54 per cent, preferably 30-48 per cent alkaline, earth carbonates 4-40 per cent, preferably 8-28 per cent, titanium oxide 5-35 per cent, preferably 8-25 per cent. The coating is substantially free of iron oxides. Iron powder not exceeding 20 per cent may be added to the coating. Specification 488,871 is referred to.
