Abstract

Carbon bisulphide is removed from liquid, vaporous or gaseous hydrocarbon material containing it by contacting the material with a primary amine of a cyclic paraffin, e.g. cyclohexylamine, or a carbamate thereof to form a salt of the cylic paraffin dithiocarbamic acid, removing the latter and decomposing it with a mineral acid to recover the carbon bisulphide and to obtain the mineral acid salt of the cyclic paraffin amine from which the amine may be recovered. A portion of the amine may be replaced by a strong mineral alkali or a strong organic base such as alphapipecoline. The carbon bisulphide may be recovered by distillation and the amine may be recovered, and the organic base too if present, by separation or by steam distillation. Specifications 467,581, 570,294 and 572,690 are referred to.ALSO:In the removal of carbon bisulphide from liquid, vaporous or gaseous hydrocarbon material containing it (see Group III), the material is contacted with a primary amine of a cyclic paraffin, e.g. cyclohexylamine, or a carbamate thereof to form a salt of the cyclic paraffin dithiocarbamic acid. A proportion of the amine may be replaced by a strong mineral alkali or a strong organic base such as alphapipecoline. Carbon bisulphide reacts with (a) cyclohexylamine to form cyclohexylamine cyclohexyldithiocarbamate, (b) sodium hydroxide and cyclohexylamine to form sodium cyclohexyldithiocarbamate, and (c) pipercoline and cyclohexylamine to form the pipecoline salt of cyclohexyldithiocarbamic acid. Cyclohexylamine cyclohexylcarbamate, which may be used instead of the amine, may be prepared by passing dry carbon dioxide into cyclohexylamine until no more is absorbed. During the reactions with carbon bisulphide, side reactions occur in which a little of the thiourea derivative of the cyclic paraffin is produced, e.g. C6H11NH.CS.NH.C6H11. Specifications 467,581, 570,294 and 572,690 are referred to.
