Abstract
Aqueous dispersions of the resinous products produced by reacting di-halogenated alkanes, e.g. dichloromethane, dichloroethane and 1-chloro-3-bromo-propane, with alkali, alkaline p earth or ammonium polysulphides are obtained by effecting the reaction in an aqueous medium in the presence of water-soluble organic dispersing agents comprising salts of sulphuric acid esters derived from alkenes or alcohols containing at least 10 carbon atoms. In an example dichlorethane and aqueous sodium polysulphide are reacted at 70 DEG C. in the presence of sodium salts of sulphuric acid esters prepared from vapour phase cracked paraffin wax fractions containing a mixture of alkenes of 10 to 18 carbon atoms. On standing, an upper layer containing aqueous sodium chloride separates and is removed.
