Abstract

617,800. Drying fabric webs. DUNSKI,C. V., and REGOUT, G. M. Sept. 25, 1946, No. 28625. [Class 34(i)] A drying and tentering machine has infra-red radiators grouped in batteries on both sides of the web, and the electrical energy necessary for the operation of the machine and radiators is supplied in a progressive manner according to the advancement of the material therethrough and in a constant manner for a definite length of the material. The apparatus described has chambers 1, 2 and 3 containing batteries B1-B8 of infra-red radiators, between which fabric web F passes. The web is fed over rollers R1-R8 and then secured to a pair of endless transporting chains 18 passing over ratchets 29-1-29-7, driven by an electric motor 37 and gearing 38 and 39-1. Finally the web passes between rollers 33 and 34 to a carriage 36. Means are provided for varying the distance between the chains 18 in accordance with the web width. The radiator batteries are brought into and out of circuit automatically and progressively by photo-electric cells CE1 and CE2 operating an electric relay mechanism, not shown. Each chamber is connected by ducts 64-1, 64-2, 64-3, to a duct 64 provided with an exhaust from 61 having an exhaust chimney 65. The hygrometric state of each chamber is regulated automatically by servo-motors which vary the position of the dampers 66-1, 66-2 and 66-3. The servomotors are operated by thermostats influenced by wet and dry bulbs placed in the ducts 64-1, 64-2, and 64-3. The web speed may be regulated.
