617,742. Overload-release clutches. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 31, 1946, No. 32341. Convention date, Jan. 15. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group VII] A clutch connecting a driving pulley 90, running anti - clockwise, with a collar 93 fixed on a shaft 22 comprises an arm 98 pivoted at 97 on the pulley and having a projection 99 adapted to engage a notch 95 in the collar, the projection and notch being so shaped that the projection is forced out of the notch, on the occurrence of overload, against the action of a spring 102 which is pivoted to the pulley at 104, bears against the pulley rim at 106, and is connected to the arm 98 by a link 101 ; the pivot connecting the arm and link passes over dead-centre to hold the arm clear of the collar 93 when disengaged. Re-engagement is effected by rotating the pulley in the reverse direction with the collar 93 held stationary by a pin 115 (Fig. 1, not shown) engaging a hole in a disc secured to the shaft 22, whereupon a spring- pressed pawl 107 pivoted to the arm 98 engages a step 96 in the collar 93 to pull the togglelinkage 98, 101 over dead-centre again so that the spring 102 presses the arm into engagement with the collar.
