Abstract
616,550. Ball-and-float valves. FORDHAM PRESSINGS, Ltd., and PARKER, J. F. May 7, 1946, No. 13782. [Class 135] In a flushing or like cistern, the discharge pipe 5 from the inlet valve 1 reaches to the bottom of the cistern and it has a restricted throat 8 so that the rate of discharge from the valve is equal to the rate of flow into it, and a slight clearance or air leak between the valve plunger and the valve casing prevents water from being sucked back should a vacuum form in the inlet pipe. Pipe 5 may be telescopic or fitted with a rubber tube which is free to lie on the bottom of the cistern. The .throat 8 is constituted by a metal sleeve into which the tube 5 is grooved, as shown.
