Abstract
616,349. Jet-propulsion nozzles. SOC. RATEAU, and ANXIONNAZ, R. Nov. 16, 1945, No. 30845. Convention date, Feb. 6. [Class 110 (iii)] In a variable area jet propulsion nozzle of the kind comprising an auxiliary nozzle member telescopically disposed with reference to a main nozzle, the auxiliary nozzle has an outlet area smaller than that of the main nozzle and is displaceable along the axis of the main nozzle so that the whole of the gases pass through the auxiliary nozzle when it is in the position giving the minimum exit area. The propulsion nozzle shown has a main nozzle e along the axis of which the auxiliary nozzle f is movable by means of a control rod h. When the rod h is fully extended, the auxiliary nozzle which has an exit area less than that of the nozzle e forms the sole propulsion nozzle. Where a large variation in area is required, several concentric auxiliary nozzles may be used.
