Abstract

615,331. Cores for dynamo-electric machines. HYBLER, B. Jan. 25, 1946, No. 2515. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1945. [Class 35] The stator of an A.C. generator, e.g. for cycle lighting, is built up of laminated segments 2 secured side by side in a circular formation within a cylindrical housing, the winding slots 3 being formed by grooves in the abutting radial edges of the segments. As shown in Fig. 2, the coil 4 is formed in a circular zigzag form and the laminated segments are inserted from alternately opposite directions so that the straight parts 4a of the coil are located in the slots 3. The permanent magnet rotor (not shown) has alternately magnetized salient poles whose surface loss is minimized by making the winding slot openings as narrow as possible and guiding the stator flux round the winding by means of further slots 8 and 13 which follow the desired flux path as shown in the developed Fig. 4. In order to further reduce the eddy losses, the stator or rotor pole sides may be serrated to ease the abruptness with which the flux the slot 6.
