Abstract

615,179. Renovating films. KODAK, Ltd., and LEVENSON, G. I. P. Aug. 1, 1946, No. 22910. [Class 98 (ii)] A film is renovated by passing over the surface of boiling solvent for the surface material thereof until surface scratches or marks are filled or smoothed out and then removing absorbed solvent by treatment with a current of hot air. The film may be of cellulose nitrate with or without a coating of cellulose acetate, and the solvent may be a mixture of dichlorethane and ethyl alcohol, and butyl acetate may be added. As shown, the film is fed from a spool 11 into a solvent-containing vessel 1 provided with a heater 2 and antisplashing baffle 3, and after passage under the pulley 8 passes through a duct 9, through which warm air is blown, to the take-up spool 14. A cooling coil 6 prevents solvent vapour from freely leaving the vessel.
