Abstract
614,574. Guiding webs. DUFAY-CHROMEX, Ltd., and ZUPPINGER, P. W. July 12, 1946. No. 20986. [Class 100(i)] [Also in Group XX] A roller for supporting or guiding lengths of film or web material comprises a pair of drums 4 with flanges 12 to engage and guide the edges of the film; the drums are rotatable on sleeves 3 which are themselves slidably mounted on spindle 1, and helical springs 6 urge the drums inwards towards flanges 5 on the sleeves; the pair of sleeves are fixed from their end parts 7 by screws 9 to rod 8, and the rod is slidable through guides 10 which are rigidly attached to spindle 1 by screws 11. The roller carries the film by its edges only, possible increases in width of the moving film are taken up by lateral movement of the drums 4 against springs 6, and transverse displacement of the film relatively to the roller by simultaneous movement of the pair of sleeves 3 along the spindle 1.
