Abstract
614,425. Latch assembly. HARTWELL, C., and HARTWELL, S., (trading as HARTWELL AVIATION SUPPLY CO.). March 5, 1946, No. 6840. Convention date, April 16, 1945. [Class 44] A flush latch structure for use in securing e.g. inspection panels in the exterior body of an aircraft comprises a mounting plate provided with a centrally arranged slot and two pairs of journal lugs 4, 5 bordering the slot. Each pair of lugs carries a pin 6, 12 on which are journalled the latch lever 7 and keeper lever 13 respectively, the levers being of channel crosssection fitting within the slot to occupy coplanar closed positions and angular open positions. The keeper lever 13 is provided with a lip 14 engageable with the web 3 of the mounting plate. The latch lever 7 is provided with a cam face 11 which engages the end of lever 13, causing it to move towards the dotted position shown, when lever 7 approaches its latched position, until the lip 10 of the latch lever clears the keeper lever, whereupon this latter snaps to its closed position, under the action of springs 16 connected between the two levers and which tend to turn lever 7 into its open position. The journal pin 12 of the keeper lever 13 is so positioned as to constitute a stop limiting inward travel of the cam space 11.
