Abstract
613,885. Fishing. MAILLIET, P. June 27, 1946. No. 19202. [Class 48] [Also in Group XXIV] In a fishing-reel the direction of rotation of the winding crank determines the velocity ratio of the spool drive. A disc 19 rotated by the crank has teeth 17, 18, respectively, engaging sleeves 13, 14, which are rotatable between end stops on the spool shaft 3. A member 10 slides between the sleeves and rotates with the shaft. As the disc rotates in the direction F1 teeth on the sleeve 13 coact with teeth on the member to rotate the shaft in the direction F4 whilst rotation of the disc at the same speed, in the direction F5 engages the member with the sleeve 14 to rotate the shaft at less speed but again in the direction F4. The spool 2 is frictionally connected to the shaft which may be locked against rotation by a screw 9, and a click device 40, 41 is provided. The driving mechanism casing 21 is angularly adjustable in the spool support 1 to permit right or left hand use of the reel. A line guide 28 pivoted to the support is turned to the operative position by rotation of the spool. In a modification, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the member 10 is divided into two, the parts being spring- loaded against the end teeth of the sleeves. In this case the spool shaft is irreversible and cannot be rotated by a pull on the fishing line.
