Abstract

613,193. Electric light fittings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BOWD, A. G. June 14, 1946, No. 17974. [Classes 75 (iii) and 75 (iv)] In a flame-proof electric light fitting the ends of a transparent tube.9, surrounding an elongated lamp 8, are secured by sliding joints to socket members 12, 13 spherically seated in the inner walls 14, 15 of end casings 1, 2 so that the tube 9 and the end casings 1, 2 constitute a flame-proof enclosure into which the electric supply leads are suitably sealed. When the cover 5 of the end casing 2 is removed the tube 9 can be pulled out of the socket 12, and the spherical seating on the socket 13 allows the end thus freed to be rotated downwards until the tube 9 can be pulled lengthwise out of the socket 13. The lamp 8 is supported by leaf springs 20, 21 cut out of cylindrical metal shields 16, 17 secured to metal sleeves 10, 11 on the ends of the glass tube 9. A metal tube 3, housing the ancillary electrical equipment, forms a rigid support for the fitting.
