TRIO COMPANY, A conronatrion on 'u'uw Yonkf LAMP soqKEm,
Application filed May 1, 1926. 'seriarzitbrlcaiz5u y I My invention relates to lamp sockets. lvlore particularly it relates to lamp sockets adapted for use in connection with high currentlamps such as high current incandescent lamps which are adapted for use in connection with motion picture studios or for illuminating aviation fields.
1O kilowatts in power consumption.
It is an object of my invention to provide a socket which is especially adapted forsupporting high current lamps of the above character.
My invention will be more readily underdrawing, specification and claims.
Referring to the drawing, Fig. 1 shows the socket of my invention inperspective; Fig. 2sh'0ws the socket in side elevation with one size of lamp in position F igs. 3 and 4 show details of the socket; Fig. 5 shows the base of one of the higher power lamps, such as for a 30 kilowatt lamp.-
Referring more in detail to the drawing, and in particular to Fig. 1, the-socket is provided with a base 2 preferably threaded internally, which base is adapted to be screwed to any suitable support suchfas an iron pipe 2, see Fig. 2. The base is provided with an upward projecting flange 8 to whiclrare clamped the socket terminals 4 and-5, which are suitably insulated from each other and from the flange. Above the socket terminals 4 and 5 there is mounted a plate 6 having a central opening (see Fig. 3) within which a removable fitting element 7 (see'Fig.
13 projects (see Fig. 2).
When it is desiredto operate one of the 13 the fitting 7 is rewhether of a large or of a small size, is provided with terminal stems to fit the openings in the terminals 4 and 5 shown in For example, Fig. 5 in which a large size lampis represented, shows such stems 8 and 9, which stems constitute the terminals of Lamps of this i the screws are tightened, cemp i F g-1 ..used the removable' element acts asa guide for; the base element 12 ,of the lamp I whenthelarge size lamp is used the platefi acts as a guidefonthebase element12 eThe stood by reference to the accompanying p i ripe .mayb screwed. When thus mounted con 4:) is secured. This fitting is provided with an opening 11 through which the ,7 base. 12 of one of the smaller size of lamps 'ited, inasmuch as in VtLIlELtlOIlS may be" made without-1 departlng Fig. 1.
small size and for holdingthelamp' in place. The lamp. whjet-h'er .large,1or small, may bef'adjusted' longitudinallyv of the socket before as shown for ex VVhen the small damp is and base :element ,12 corresponds to; the base element 12, butthe former is 1nuch.shorter,terlnina-tiiig, when l in position, low the guide plate 6, 'F ig.. 1. As shown,
the filaments of the'lamp. In Fig, 2 the lamp' is shown with similar stems in thecsocket terminals; ,These socket terminals, as shown inFigl, are provided with screws 10 and 10 for clamping the prongs considerably bethe base element 1 2 is located above the e e emen 2. ly in the opening of thexguideplate tl. I I
As indicated inmFig. 2, the device asa whole may. be 'mountedon the end of. a supto. which latterthe device nections from a suitable current source may be made with the terminals 4: and 5 bymeans of wires extending through the pipe and through thehollow. base 2 of the device,,the
ends of the wires being securedtothe terminals byjtmeans of k It will .be seen, therefore,
screws let and 15.
that I provide an improved socket especially, adapted for use, in. connection with high. power. incandescent. lamps/[which is constructed so that either large on smallsizelamps may beused. For thesmaller lainp the fitting Tserves to steady thelamp For-the largersize lamps the plate 6 serves to steady: the lamp. 7 'While I have, electedto'describe my invention in' connecti'on with a specific embodiment; of socketfllfdo not wish to be so flim view of the" disclosure from the spirit-of the invention or from the scope of the "claims contained herein. WVhat I claim as'new and desire toisecure byLetters Patent of theUnited States, is:-

and is adapted, to rest. snugto, a guide plate located over said terminals lated from each cured to said base and its stems may be inserted to engage saidtermina-ls, the opening of the hollow base and the said opening in said plate being located in juxtaposition to said terminals, the
l tter being interposed between the guide plate and the hollow base.
2. An electric lamp socket adapted to receive a la-mp, the latter having a base and terminal stems projecting therefrom, a flange projecting fromthe base of said socket and extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the socket, a terminal for each stem sefiange, said terminals having their longitudinal axes extending parallel to the said axis of the" socket, said terminals being insulated from each other and each terminal being provided with means whereby the corresponding stem may be secured therewith an opening in juxtaposition tosaid terminals, through which opening the lamp base and its stems may be inserted to engage said terminals, said terminals being located between said plate and base of the socket;
3. An electric lamp socket adapted toreceive a lamp, the latter having a base and terminal stems projecting therefrom, said socket comprising a hollow base through which cable connections may be made to the socket, a flange projecting from the base parallel to the longitudinal axis ofthe socket,
a terminal for each stem secured to" said flange, said terminals havingthei'r longitudinal 'ax'e's extending parallel to the. said axis'o'f the socket, said terminals being insulated from each other and each being provided with an opening for receiving its' corres dndingsfem, a guide plate for said lam base located over: said terminals, said plate having an; opening through. which the lamp base and; its may be insertedto engage said terminals,,the-open g, ofrthe hollow base a-Iidgt-lie'ssaidi opening, said plate bein'g, 1o-
