[Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Group XX] Apparatus for integrating the product of two variables comprises two pairs of discs, one of each pair being fixed and one movable relative to the first in accordance with a variable, and means, driven by a constant speed motor through clutch means, for scanning the first pair of discs so as to transmit a proportion of the rotary movement of the motor in accordance with the first variable to similar clutch and scanning means so that a further proportion of a rotary movement according to the second variable is transmitted to counting mechanism. As applied to a heating system, a motor 1 drives a gear-wheel 4 at constant speed and a pawl 10 fixed to a freely mounted shaft 8 drives a gear-wheel 12 for a fraction of each revolution of the gear-wheel 4 as determined by the. angular displacement from a fixed cam disc 14 of a cam disc 15 moved by rack 24 and pinion 18 in accordance with the rate of flow of the heating fluid. The gearwheel 12 drives a counter to register the aggregate flow and drives through a chain of gears a gear-wheel 27 which by a similar process drives a gear-wheel 28 for a fraction of each of its revolutions determined by the temperature difference of outward and return flow of heating fluid obtained through differential gearing 32. The gear-wheel 28 thus drives a counter 39 to register the aggregate over a period of time of the products of the flow and temperature difference for each revolution of the wheel 4 during the period. In a modification applied to flow meters, particularly for steam, a correction is applied for variations in pressure and temperature through the differential gearing 32 by actuating one of the racks 37 by means responsive to pressure and the other by means responsive to temperature.
