Abstract
612,838. Turbine blades. LYSHOLM, A. March 29, 1946, No. 9841. Convention date, April 4, 1945. Drawings to Specification. [Class 110 (iii)] A moving blade for an elastic-fluid turbine is made hollow, has a rounded inlet edge and is formed so that the outlet angle decreases from the root to the tip. The turbine rotor blades are formed from a blank of sheet-metal which has its greatest thickness at the edge corresponding to the root of the blade. The blank is bent over a suitably shaped tool, then given the desired streamline shape and twisted so that the outlet angle decreases from the root to the tip. The length of the blade exceeds. 10 per cent and preferably amounts to 20 or 30 per cent of the mean diameter of the blade ring. The degree of reaction at the mean diameter may be 50 or 60 per cent and increase towards the tip of the blades where it may amount to 75 per cent. Due to the high degree of reaction the pitch of the blades-may be large and the total number of blades may be 60 or preferably less, i.e. between 30 and 50. The blades may be fastened to the rotor by electric butt-welding or flash-welding in which a current of high intensity and extremely short duration is passed between the parts to be welded so that only the abutting portions of the material are heated to the welding temperature.
