Abstract

612,234. Pivotal joints. BISHOP, R., and JOHNSTON, R. H. May 20, 1946, No. 15248. [Class 65 (ii)] A Hooke's joint adapted to allow greater angular movement about one than about the other of its pivotal axes, comprises a member formed with ears 4, a member formed with ears 9 which are made narrower than the gap between the ears 4 and are spaced apart by a distance less than the width of the ears 4, a pivot pin 5 carried by the ears 4, a pivot pin 7 carried by the ears 9 and passed through a bore formed diametrically through the centre of the pin 5, washers 8 of external diameter approximately equal to the gap between the ears 4 and mounted on the pin 7 one on each side of the pin 5, and spring washers 11 adapted to limit axial movement of the pin 7. In a modification, the washers 8 are positioned outside the ears 9, the latter embracing opposed flats formed on the pin 5.
