Abstract

612,175. Utilizing wave energy. GAY, A. May 15, 1946, No. 14676. [Class 69 (i)] Apparatus for the utilization of the energy of waves comprises a series of converging dihedral channels 6 of sufficient depth below low-water level that the waves do not break in the channels. Each channel has at the narrow end a control gate 8 that permits water to flow into a reservoir 7 but not in the reverse direction. The control gate may consist either of a series of guide vanes 10, set at an ever increasing angle to the horizontal the higher their position in the structure, or a series of open conical passages. Both the vanes and the passages have flap valves 11 fitted at the rearward side, and to reduce the back flow to a minimum the valves are fitted with a circular lip.
