Abstract

611,268. Ironing - boards. CHARLESWORTH, F. J. April 26, 1946, No. 12583. [Class 138(ii)] An ironing-board comprises a meshedmetal base 3 which is mounted on and secured to a supporting frame 1 in a stretched condition. The base 3 is provided with downwardly-extending peripheral flanges 4 which, when the base is in position on the frame, are bent over on to the underside of the latter, being welded thereto, if desired. The frame 1, which may be formed of angle-section members braced by cross-battens 2, may have a member 9, Fig. 6, of angle or other section provided along its side edges in order to conceal the flanges 4 of the base 3. The side edges of the frame and base diverge from the pointed end of the board so that, by sliding the base 3 endwise on the frame, it becomes tautened thereon; alternatively, or in addition to this arrangement, the cross-battens 2 may be pivoted to one side link of the frame and engage, with a force fit at their free ends, stops provided on the opposite side limb of the frame. The felt or like cover 6 for the board may be stitched to the base 3.
