Abstract

610,099. Chair &c. frames. JACKSON, S. W., and WREN, N. T. March 28, 1946, No. 9592. [Class 52(ii)] A chair or the like frame comprises a back member secured to a pair of side members, the back and/or each side member being formed of a single rolled strip of metal turned or curved at some or all of its corners. As shown, the side and back members 1, 2 are formed of strip metal of channel section and are secured together by welding, bolts, &c. The base frame 5 for supporting the seat springs is secured to the side members 1 either directly or by means of cross bars 6. The rear of the back frame is similarly secured to the side members 1 and to the base frame 5. The back member 2 is adapted to be provided with a spring member and the assembled chair frame is covered by covering and padding materials. In a modification the back member 2 comprises strip metal bent upon itself to present a smooth edge 10 and flanges 11 and is secured to the side members 1 and sub-frame 5 by welding, &c. The front of the sub-frame may be provided with a facing strip.
