Abstract
608,040. Magnetrons. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. June 22, 1945, No. 16035. Convention date, Aug. 25, 1943. [Class 39 (i)] Apertures are provided in the radially-disposed vanes of a magnetron and serve to couple adjacent cavity resonators constituted by the vanes and the inner wall of the hollow cylindrical anode member. The magnetron comprises an anode block 10, vanes 11, and an indirectly-heated cathode 12 provided with end shields 13, 14 and heater 15. Leads 16, 17 supply the heating current, and are fused into a glass support 18 which is supported on the anode block. The envelope comprises a flattened tubular member 25 with closure members 26, 27, one of which carries a support 29 for leads 30, 31, whilst a coupling loop 35 is supported by the other. In each vane 11 is provided an aperture 11<1>, preferably near to the outer edge of the vane, and the apertures couple the cavity resonators which are formed by two vanes and the inner wall of the anode block. The vanes 11 are of copper and are inserted into slots machined in a copper cylinder 10 and silver soldered. The cathode is an oxide-coated nickel cylinder welded to a nickel or tantalum end shield 13. The anode-cathode assembly is inserted into the envelope and closure is made by welding the end cap 26 and brazing the coupling unit in at 42.
