Abstract

607,438. Couplings. MILLBANK, L. G., and MITCHELL, S. S. C. Feb. 4, 1946, No. 3514. [Class 38 (i)] In a slip-ring assembly comprising a series of alternate conducting and insulating rings 4, 5 secured rigidly together, the conducting rings, which are engaged by brushes 19, have internal sockets 6 which accommodate the ends of the leads and are angularly displaced in successive rings, locating pins 7 extending through the conducting rings, engaging one or other of a pair of suitably spaced slots or holes in each insulating ring. The assembly is clamped by a nut 11 and bolt 12 to an insulating base 1 through which extend a plurality of contact plug-pins 2 connected to the rings and adapted to engage sockets (not shown) mounted in a rotating holder 3. Oppositely situated pairs of stationary brushes 19 are mounted in holes in an insulating cylindrical support 18 and pressure is applied to the brushes by U-shaped springs 20 running round the support in peripheral grooves 29. The brush support is mounted on a spigoted annular plate 15 carrying a second plate 22 and making a sliding bearing on a flange 14 on the base 1. These plates have radial slots 16 and 23 respectively to accommodate the brush leads which are gripped in place by locking the plates in a relatively angularly displaced position.
