Abstract

1499808 Brushgear in electrical machines INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 5 March 1975 [16 Jan 1974] 2022/74 Addition to 1396309 Heading H2A A machine has a plurality of resilient fibre current transfer brushes 12 each having a projecting peg, e.g. an end of a pin 14, engaged in one of a plurality of grooves or slots 11 in an annular actuating plate 10, the grooves or slots 11 being so disposed that upon rotation of the actuating plate 10 each brush is positively driven in a radial direction to adjust the contact pressure between the brushes and a current transfer surface, means being provided to guide each of the brushes in the radial direction. In the arrangement shown, the brushes 12 have pins 14 with opposite ends engaged in corresponding grooves or slots 11 in two similar plates 10; the radial guiding means are provided by wedge shaped members 16 mounted between two fixed retaining plates 15; and the brushes 12 move radially outwards to contact a rotating transfer surface (not illustrated). A similar arrangement in which brushes move radially inwards is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown).
