Abstract

607,403. Cycle brakes. WILLIAMS, G. Feb. 1, 1946, Nos. 3312 and 33484. [Class 136 (i)] In a cycle brake of the type in which the brake blocks are drawn together against opposite sides of the rim of a wheel, the brake mechanism comprises a rear plate a secured to the forks or stays of the cycle, brake arms d, e with a pair of brake shoes o near their ends, intermeshing gear geeth f on inwardly projecting portions of the brake arms, and an extension h on one of the brake arms having a lug m to which an operating cable or rod may be secured. The brake shoes o have slotted lugs p projecting from them in which slide bolts q also engaged in slots s extending longitudinally of the brake arms d, e. The rear plate a may be extended to carry two rear lamps v, w, of which the lamp v is an ordinary rear red light, and w is a warning lamp, the circuit of which is closed by a spring-blade contact x fixed to one of the brake arms and engaging with the lamp socket to complete its circuit whenever the brake is applied.
