Abstract
607,248. Variable-pitch propellers. ESCHER WYSS MASCHINENFABRIKEN AKT.-GES. Jan. 29, 1946, No: 2869. Convention date, Feb. 3, 1945. [Class 114] [Also in Group XXXVIII] In a variable-pitch propeller control means comprising a reversible motor mounted in a shaft 3, Fig. 1, and controlled by a switch lever 14, the angular adjustment of which indicates the pitch change, the lever 14 which carries counter contacts 14<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>2</SP> is adjustably mounted with clearance between at least two contacts 21<SP>1</SP>, 21<SP>2</SP> of a rotatably mounted forked contact carrier 13 which forms one end of a mechanical connection including an automatic equalizing device 17 between the carrier and a blade following ring 6, the latter in conjunction with the device 17 serving to nullify the lengthening or shortening of the mechanical connection, occasioned by the switch movement until blade adjustment is attained, and contact between the switch lever 14 and the contact carrier 13 is broken. A gap of about 1 mm. is normally maintained between the studs 141, 211 and 142, 212 by spring means, and this gap when closed tends to be opened by movement of a rod 5 transmitted by blade followers 7, 6, levers 9, 10, 11, a rod 12, the equalizing device 17 and a rod 12<SP>4</SP>. The equalizing device comprises a piston 12<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, rigidly connected to the carrier 13 and loaded on both sides by equally tensioned springs 12<SP>2</SP>, 12<SP>3</SP>. Stops 24 serve to cut out the motor at the limit of pitch variation. Specification 596,035 is referred to.
