607,221. Television. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Oct. 18, 1945, No. 27300. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1944. [Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] - A cabinet structure for a television receiver or other image-producing apparatus comprises a main cabinet portion and an upper cabinet portion, the latter portion carrying a fixedly mounted reflector and being telescopically mounted on said main portion and means are provided for raising and lowering said upper portion such that when said upper portion is in its elevated position the reflector provides an observable viewing surface for an image produced within the main cabinet portion. The main cabinet portion 11 which contains the vision and sound receiving apparatus has included as a part thereof a top section 15 provided with a reflector 59 serving to direct on to viewing screen 61 television images produced by tube 71 and imaged on 59 by means of spherical mirror 83 and Schmidt plate 77. The top section is arranged to telescope within the portion 11 through the operative means of threaded spindles 19 co-operating with threaded bushing members 23 carried by the portion 11, the latter portion being guided and positioned by guide rod elements 17 (Fig. 3). Motive power is supplied by an electric motor 25 which drives the pinions 39 secured to the spindles 19 through a slip clutch 41, gear-box 31 and worm-wheels 37 mounted on shafts 27, 29, the slip clutch serving to prevent damage to the equipment due to over-driving. A gearshifting lever 55 movable in a slot in the main cabinet portion operates on the gear-box 31 to reverse the direction of rotation of the shafts 27, 29 and consequently the direction in which the upper portion 15 is moved. The slip clutch may be replaced by suitably controlled contact members, or a limit switch, in the motor circuit.
